Nestled in the serene Santa Clara River Valley, Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery has been a cornerstone of remembrance and reflection for over a century. Established in the late 1800s, this cemetery offers a tranquil resting place surrounded by avocado and lemon orchards, sweeping green lawns, and scenic mountain views. Its rich history and commitment to honoring the departed make it a significant landmark in Santa Paula, California.

A Legacy of Community and Care

Originally divided into three family sections—Sewell, Fagan, and Mt. Olive—the cemetery was incorporated in 1903 as the Santa Paula Cemetery Association. In 1950, under the guidance of Ed Davis, the cemetery underwent significant improvements, establishing endowment care for its original sections and enhancing its uniform appearance.

The cemetery is not only a final resting place but also a site of historical significance. It serves as the burial ground for 50 victims of the 1928 St. Francis Dam disaster, one of California’s most devastating events. A memorial stands to honor those who lost their lives, and on each anniversary, memorial crosses are placed on their graves.

A Place of Remembrance and Celebration

Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery is committed to serving the diverse communities of Santa Paula, Fillmore, Saticoy, Oxnard, and Ventura. As a nondenominational cemetery, it welcomes people of all religious backgrounds and cultural traditions. The cemetery hosts annual events such as Memorial Day ceremonies and Día de los Muertos celebrations, providing families with opportunities to honor and remember their loved ones in meaningful ways.

Among its beautifully landscaped gardens is the Our Lady of Guadalupe Garden, featuring an 8-foot mosaic of the Blessed Virgin Mary, allowing for traditional ground burials and cremation inurnments. The Memory Tree Cremation Garden offers a thoughtfully designed space with a large round community columbarium, granite-front niches, and areas for private family estates.

A Testament to Heritage and Peace

Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the community it serves. Its commitment to honoring history, providing compassionate care, and offering a peaceful environment for reflection makes it a cherished part of Santa Paula’s heritage. Tucked along the edge of the Santa Clara River Valley, the Santa Paula Airport is a hidden gem in Santa Paula, CA—a place where aviation history, community spirit, and scenic beauty all come together. While it may not resemble the bustling terminals of a major city, this small general aviation airport has a big presence in the hearts of locals and aviation enthusiasts alike. With its vintage atmosphere and vibrant flying culture, the airport offers a unique glimpse into the world of flight from a more personal, hands-on perspective.

A Legacy of Aviation in the Heart of the Valley

Established in the early 1930s, the Santa Paula Airport has a long-standing legacy as one of Southern California’s most respected general aviation fields. Built by local pilots and volunteers, it has remained a privately owned airport that continues to serve recreational and private aviation to this day.

The airport features a single runway and dozens of hangars housing everything from modern small aircraft to carefully restored vintage planes. Pilots and mechanics work side by side, and visitors often catch sight of planes taxiing across the tarmac or soaring gracefully above the valley. It’s a scene that brings the wonder of flight down to earth, making it accessible to all who visit.

A Living Museum of Flight

In many ways, the airport feels like a living museum. The historic hangars—some dating back decades—hold more than just aircraft; they hold stories, craftsmanship, and generations of aviation passion. Local pilots and longtime residents often share tales of the airport’s past, from its survival through floods to its role as a training ground for aspiring aviators.

Events throughout the year bring the community together, showcasing classic planes, live flight demonstrations, and even opportunities to meet the pilots who keep the spirit of flight alive. It’s a place where families, history buffs, and flying enthusiasts gather not just to watch planes, but to celebrate aviation as part of Santa Paula’s identity.

A Skyward Symbol of Community

The Santa Paula Airport isn’t just a place where planes take off and land—it’s where dreams of flight come alive. It’s where history is preserved not behind glass, but in hangars and airstrips still in use. Whether you’re an aviation hobbyist or simply looking for a unique way to connect with local history, the Santa Paula Airport offers an experience that’s both uplifting and deeply rooted in community pride.
